A Spidey and His Amazing Friends (Miles Morales) Birthday Party

Planning a Spidey and His Amazing Friends birthday party and looking for inspo?

Here are links to everything I used to throw one at home. Birthday boy had a special affinity for Miles Morales, so most of the decor centered around him.

A Spidey/Miles Morales -Themed Party DIY “Kit”

  1. IKEA clothing rack that you can use as a backdrop stand — Only $8.99 and one of my favorite IKEA “hacks”!

  2. Red “4” Mylar balloon

  3. Balloon garland kit — Pssst. You always spend more if the balloon garland is specifically branded as a Spidey/Miles Morales color palette. Just find an unbranded balloon garland that has the colors you want!

  4. And His Amazing Friends backdrop sign — We make these and can customize wording, Spidey face, and size.

  5. Welcome Superheroes Banner (link coming soon)

  6. Favors and Favors Banner (link coming soon)

  7. Cake Stand

  8. Printable Vinyl

  9. Miles Morales hoodie — The birthday boy happily wore this hoodie as his Miles Morales costume, and I love it because it’s not a single-use item. It’s a very comfortable zip-up that can be worn like another other jacket.

The Backdrop

I hung my banner on this stand and used removable glue dots to stick the red number balloon on the wall. Because we had a stand, we were able to easily hang the balloon garland by attaching it to the stand.

I created a jumbo Miles Morales cut-out by printing an image of Miles on large format paper and gluing it onto a thick piece of cardboard I had saved. I used an x-acto knife to carefully cut around the image, but as you can tell, I was in a bit of a rush, so the cut wasn’t as clean as I’d like. The birthday boy and his friends didn’t even notice!

We used a pedestal we use as a side table in our living room to display the cake and prop up the cut-out.

Cake

We bought our favorite Berry Chantilly cake from Whole Foods, scraped off the fruit topping and smoothed the icing out. This is what we did for previous birthday parties, I think we might make it a birthday tradition. If your child is obsessed with Spidey, I assume you have at least a few Spidey toys lying around the house. With a plain white cake as a base, you can decorate your cake with those toys! No need to custom order a cake. We had a ton of Spidey Legos made by the birthday boy that we used to embellish the cake. We threw the Legos in the dishwasher after, and they were good as new.

Story Time

The birthday party was originally supposed to be at a playground, but the weather decided to give us near freezing rain in the middle of spring! With a predicted high of 41 and low of 30 degrees and rain all day, we had to move everything indoors… but that meant we had to prep the house to entertain 25+ toddlers 😅 Everything was super last minute, so I used what we had to create little stations of Spidey and Marvel-themed activities.

I reused snack containers to create a Captain America’s shield throw activity. I printed images of Spidey villains onto vinyl that I could slap onto the containers.

I turned our Veer pop-up tent into a ball pit and rebranded it as the birthday boy’s Web-Quarters. We also have a dress-up rack in our home, so I created a little sign to make it feel more on theme.

I also converted the kids’ basketball net into a Pumpkin Toss station. Printable vinyl was truly the MVP of party prep because it allowed me to rebrand the stuff we had at home quickly. The vinyl is completely removable too.

This was by far the easiest, low effort station. I printed a bunch of free Spidey coloring pages I found online and had crayons out for kids who wanted a quiet, sedentary activity.

An Infinity Stone (Egg) Hunt

It was right around Easter, and we didn’t want the kids to get too stir crazy indoors, so we threw an Infinity Stone (egg) hunt in our yard. We know Thanos is not quite in the Spidey and His Amazing Friends universe, but he is well within the Marvel universe. My husband and I are big Marvel geeks, so putting this together was a treat. We borrowed a pop-up canopy from a friend to cover our yard from the on and off drizzle, and we let the kids out in groups. We got plastic eggs that color coordinated with the Infinity Stones and had a little chart for visual reference. I made little personalized bags for each kid to use on the egg hunt. To keep them occupied while they were waiting indoors, I left Thanos’ gauntlet black and white, so they could color it in. Another printable vinyl win. I know many of you have a stack of little brown bags stashed somewhere in your house. I finally got to use up my pile. I also left some Rice Krispies out for the kids to snack on because I’m a sucker for a good pun.

Favors

I used printable vinyl to label these Spider-Man Color Your Own Canvas Kits with each child’s name, and set up a display, so families knew to take one as they left.
