My Everyday Makeup Routine

Today I am sharing my everyday makeup routine because this is a request I get a lot more often than I expected (my expectation being never), especially after I did my own makeup for my engagement shoot and wedding. As I mentioned in my skincare post, I prefer my everyday makeup to be pretty minimal, and this is what I have found works for my face. When I was trying to hack my own wedding makeup, I know how helpful it was to get product recommendations from other Asian women with similar facial features, so while I am by NO means a makeup guru (I only started wearing makeup after college), I hope this post is informative and helpful!

Everyday makeup with a little “oomph”

Step One— Base

On most days, I’ll apply this tinted sunscreen as my base. It’s lightweight and subtly evens out my skin. On days I want more coverage, I apply either this CC cream (shade = light) or pair this primer with this foundation (shade = Deauville). I love this specific primer because it reduces redness and is color-correcting without being mattifying (must preserve the precious skin dew!). The only thing I don’t like about the foundation is that it doesn’t come with a pump, which I had to purchase separately.

Step Two— Concealer

I use fingers to gently dab this concealer under my eyes. It doesn’t crease and dry out my skin, and the shade Custard is a great color match with my skin.

Step Three— Brows

I use this brow pomade to fluff up my brow hairs to add definition and subtle color while keeping them natural. I used the brown shade when my hair was lighter and balayaged in the summer and am now using the black as I transition back to my virgin hair.

Step Four— Cheeks

This liquid highlighter (shade = moonstone) gives my skin a natural, healthy glow, and I love that it blends evenly. I apply it on top of my base—on my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose, and above my cupid’s bow. For an overall glow, you can mix in a little bit into your CC cream or foundation. A little goes a long way, so take it easy unless you want to look like a disco ball!

I also love this highlighter palette (in bronze), and it’s a great option if you prefer a powder and a more subtle look. The individual shades in the palette are gorgeous but also blend well together. I apply it using an angled brush on the usual spots but also rub some on my finger and apply it on my lids if I don’t feel like wearing eyeshadow.

I go back and forth between a cream blush (shade = storm) and a powder blush (shade = orgasm). The Storm shade is a flattering warm rose color, and Orgasm is a deep coral with a hint of gold pearl.

Step Five— Eyes

Most days the only thing I do for my eyes is curl my eyelashes, so a good eyelash curler is essential. After going through several curlers that were uncomfortable because they didn’t fit my eye shape and width, I found this one, and it has been a staple since.

For extra oomph, I’ll apply mascara and add some color and shimmer to my lids. This eyeshadow base (in light) primes my lids and keeps my makeup from smudging. After the mascara and eyeshadow, I’ll go in with this felt tip eyeliner, which is so easy to apply and allows me to draw a thin, tight line along my upper lashline.

Step Six— Lips

My favorite MLBB products for my often dry lips are these tinted lip balms from Burt’s Bees (in hibiscus) and Fresh (in sugar petal). If I want an extra pop of color, I’ll wear this lip treatment first then this lipstick (in light nude).

Step Seven— Setting Spray

Before I started using this spray, all of my makeup would disappear by late afternoon. This is the final step to my makeup routine, and it keeps my makeup looking fresh. I found that setting powders are too mattifying, but this spray leaves a nice natural finish.
